Acidophilis what?

Lactobacillus acidophilus ( L. acidophilus ) is the most commonly used probiotic, or "friendly" bacteria.

Such healthy bacteria inhabit the intestines and vagina and protect against the entrance and proliferation of "bad" organisms that can cause disease. This is accomplished through a variety of mechanisms.

For example, the breakdown of food by L. acidophilus leads to production of lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and other byproducts that make the environment hostile for undesired organisms. L. acidophilus also produces lactase, the enzyme that breaks down milk sugar (lactose) into simple sugars. People who are lactose intolerant do not produce this enzyme. For this reason, L. acidophilus supplements may be beneficial for these individuals

What is acidophilis? I just gave you one link and there are many more and they all basically claim the same importance.
What is acidophilis? Okay here is an other link.

Are you lactose intolerant?
Do you have Crohn's decease?
Where you recently on antibiotics?
Bothered by allergy's?
Yeast infections?
Etc, etc, etc,
You think yogurt will do the trick, think again, better read the label. Activia to my knowledge is about the only one. Anyways, needless to say, I am taking it ever since 1/3 of my bowel remains after cancer. When I stop for any length of time I am in trouble, yes it aids in digestion.
You can buy them......surprise, at Walmart! My favorite store!!

Incredible!

Iran looks to punish Muslim Apostates who convert to Christianity

Police in the southern Iran city of Shiraz this month cracked down against known Muslim converts to Christianity, arresting members of three Christian families and confiscating their books and computers.

The arrests began at 5 a.m. on May 11, when two couples were taken into custody before boarding their flights at the Shiraz International Airport and sent directly to jail. All four were subjected to hours of interrogation, questioning them solely “just about their faith and house church activities,” an Iranian source told Compass. The detained Christians were identified as Homayon Shokohie Gholamzadeh, 48, and his wife Fariba Nazemiyan Pur, 40; and Amir Hussein Bab Anari, 25, and his wife Fatemeh Shenasa, 25.Although the two wives were released the same day of their arrest, Anari was detained until May 14, and Gholamzadeh remains jailed.

Two hours after the early morning arrests of May 11, police authorities invaded the home of Hamid Allaedin Hussein, 58, arresting him and his three adult children, Fatemah, 28, Muhammed Ali, 27, and Mojtaba, 21. All the family’s books, CDs, computers and printers were hauled off as well. Hussein, his daughter and one son were released later the same day, but son Mojtaba remains in prison. Two days later, local police picked up two more former Muslims involved in a separate house church in Shiraz as the Christian converts were talking together in a city park. Both men, Mahmood Matin and a second man identified only as Arash, are still jailed.

Still another arrest incident was reported last month in the northern city of Amol, in Mazandaran province near the Caspian Sea. Two of the arrested converts to Christianity, one a pregnant woman, are still imprisoned, with no news of their whereabouts.

Mushrooming House Churches

Over the past two years, Iran’s harsh Shiite Muslim regime has continued to arrest, harass and intimidate dozens of citizens involved in the nation’s mushrooming house church movements. One such movement confirmed last month that its indigenous groups of Iranian converts to Christianity are doubling in size every six months. Converts from Islam are routinely subjected to both physical and psychological mistreatment while being held for days or weeks, usually in solitary confinement. Huge bail amounts are demanded for their release, under the threat of further detention or formal criminal prosecution if caught worshipping or spreading their faith.

The large number of Iranians embracing Christianity has been attributed in part to a number of radio stations and satellite television channels launched in the past five years broadcasting Christian programs in Farsi into the country 24 hours a day. One Tehran analyst quoted in a May 8 article in US News & World Report accused Christian satellite TV channels of “emotionally manipulating” Iranian viewers into changing their religion.“Iranians are looking for a balm, and proselytizers are taking advantage of that,” the unidentified analyst claimed.

But Iranian Christian converts both inside and outside the country disagree. The overwhelmingly unpopular Islamist regime has so disillusioned its citizens with Islam, they say, that thousands are now willing to risk arrest, lashings and even death to find peace and purpose for their lives. In January of this year, the Iranian parliament drafted a proposed criminal code that would make the death penalty mandatory for “apostates” who leave Islam for another religion.

Under the existing law, apostasy is one of several “crimes” which can be punished with execution, although Islamic court judges are not required to hand down a death sentence. The last Iranian Christian convert from Islam formally charged with apostasy was acquitted in May 2005. But Hamid Pourmand served 22 months of a three-year prison sentence on fabricated charges before he was finally released under virtual house arrest in July 2006.

What about it

I am definitely a morning person. This morning I was up at 5:25. After I do a 15 min "tummy cruncher exercise" I make my oatmeal power breakfast with Tim Horton's coffee. Turn on my laptop and read my devotion. Believe me I need that especially when I have to go to work.
Some people, like Yvonne, do not like the mornings, she is up all hours of the night and works. That for me is the time I can't think straight (never mind I have trouble doing that during the day) hahaha!
Coming back to my morning activity. This morning I read John 14, which by the way gives you a better understanding when you read the book "The Shack" an excellent book, (I read it twice) in which the main character meets up with God, Jesus and the Spirit in the Shack after questioning God why things happened in his life, don't we all?
I am going to let you read John 14, just so to refresh your memory, after all you are not THAT smart! What a promise Jesus is making to His buddies and us.

Our vacation in Ottawa!

One of the reason we went to Ottawa is because Anneka mentioned earlier in the year that she was sad we would not be there for her 8th Birthday. So I promised her that we would make an effort to come. So here we were.

Shopping with Opa is fun because he is on the scooter with room for more!
Happy Oma, happy granddaughters

Aila is here helping Mommie making a salad
Anneka grating cheese for the salad
Happy family
Below our wonderful hosts, Yvonne and Jason
Anneka loves her MP3 player to which she happily sings along (all worship songs)
Saturday we babysat the girls and here we are washing hands and feet

Tulips from Holland grace the grounds all around Ottawa Aila and me having a picnic in the basement, just look how much "food" there is on my plate.
We are also celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary! Our waitress said to us: "How did you manage? I can't even have a boy commit himself to me for 48 hours!" Hahaha!

Off we go again

Tomorrow Ted and I will be going to Ottawa to visit Yvonne, Jason and the girls. I started the packing a bit, but I am not very good at it. I like to do it just before we go. Packing for Ted is easy.
I understand the weather is quite nice out east that will be nice. Hopefully the tulips are still looking perky.

Of course you all heard about the "Fuel surcharge", which makes people rethink the way they travel. Now have you ever heard people complain when the "Big Mac" increases in price? Or paying 150.00 plus for running shoes?

Go to a restaurant on Friday evening and you might have to wait an hour to get a meal. No you don't get a meal, you pay big money for it. Hahaha! It sure does not stop anybody from eating out.

People never had it so good, the cars get nicer and even bigger. The stores are bigger because they can't keep enough in stock. Hey they even have wheelchairs and scooters for those who can't walk but they simply have to spent their money. Ever thought about that?

Yes I know I am rambling that is because I have nothing better to say.

I better get our boarding pass.

Mothers day

Last night Ron and Lynne took both set of parents to the Olive Garden (the restaurant's slogan, where everybody is family).

Because they do NOT take reservations the wait was an hour plus. Well, like I always say: "You go with the flow!" Mind you the kids were getting very restless. Nevertheless, it was worth the wait because the food was excellent. I always take the battered and deep fried Eggplant and that comes with noodles and some sauce on top, (the sauce we all agreed does not taste that great).

We don't have pictures. Before we left Ted discovered the battery in his camera was empty. Niel, Lynne's Dad brought his case, which was empty (that's a good one!). At least he could use that for leftovers, hahaha!

We had a great time though. But Louella and I decided we have to look after our husbands 24/7 so that next time they at least have a camera to take pictures of special events!

Now coming back to Mothers day, it is NOT that I want to be forgotten on purpose, but....I never put pressure on because I do not want my kids to tell me I am a great Mom because society dictates it. I really love it when our children tell us "I love you!" with every phone call, every MSN conversation, which they do by the way! But some flowers any old day I will never refuse either. After all, you may take me away from the Dutch, but can't take the Dutch out of me!

Ron and Lynne thank you for a nice evening and thank you for the plant, I looooove it!

Mothers day!

I am so glad you asked!

Best and worst planes for seating space.

So which airlines and specific aircraft within those airlines have the most and least seat pitch? I consulted Seat Guru’s handy comparison charts for some answers.

Excluding United’s Economy Plus seating, here are the top choices:
1. WestJet Boeing 737-800’s 34 inches
2. Air Canada Embraer ERJ-190’s: 34 inches
3. Air Canada CRJ-705’s 34 inches
4. JetBlue Airbus 320’s: 34 inches (38 inches if you pay extra)
5. Frontier Airlines Airbus 318’s and 319’s: 33 inches
6. American Airlines 767’s: 33-34 inches
7. Southwest Airlines 737’s: 32-33 inches

Which have the most cramped seating? Some of the worst are:
1. Northwest Airlines DC9-30: 30 inches
2. US Airways Boeing 737-400’s and Airbus A319’s and A320’s: 30 inches
3. Airtran 717’s: 30 inches
4. USA3000 Airbus A320’s: 30 inches

In fact, the vast majority of commercial jetliners have 31 inches of pitch, with an additional handful offering 32.
If it’s seat width you’re looking for, stick with the aforementioned Midwest Airlines 717’s, and Virgin America’s Airbuses (19.7 inches).
Most other planes have 17-18 inches, according to SeatGuru.
On planes flying international routes, you’ll find similar disparities between airlines.
Most carriers will only give you between 30 and 31 inches of seat pitch, even on long haul flights (no wonder we all arrive in such bad shape).

Among the airlines affording those all important extra inches (all at 32) are Air Canada, Air France, Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways, and Virgin Atlantic.

But if you really want to sit comfortably, Air New Zealand’s 747-400’s, Asiana’s 747-400’s and Emirates’ 777’s offer a whopping 34 inches.

So... now you know!

Back home again!

Tuesday late afternoon I came back from my weekend with Willy in Whitby. We had a nice time together. I had not seen her new apartment, she told me often how much she liked it. Well when I came in the first thing I said was: "I could get used to this!" She is on the ninth floor with a beautiful view and a good size balcony (something I would look for in an apartment).

My niece Nelly and her husband Peter came to pick me up from the Airport for which I was very thankful since I don't know my way around there. They had to drive a lot of km's, they also took me back. One of these days I am going to post a picture of Nelly and me when we were toddlers, there is a striking resemblance.

One of the things Willy and I did was going to the grave side. She had not been able to get herself to do that since she had purchased the stone. She could not remember where it was, so we split up and started hunting. Eventually I found it and I took some pictures with my cell phone.

As we drove home she said: "That was not as difficult as I had thought, I found it so peaceful there. But... she continued, when Dirk and I went shopping I always ended up looking for him and now he is dead I still had to look for him!" To which we both had a good laugh!

Willy is such a sweetheart. I mentioned before that when I was young I would visit them and when a teenager and my father remarried they could see that I was not treated fairly by my stepmother. As we reminisced she got angry all over again to which I said to her: "You know Willy, I have not forgotten that but I have no bitterness in my heart, because the Lord has given me so much to be thankful for!" Look at my life, a wonderful husband, children and grandchildren. family and friends, a nice home, a good job, why should I spoil that by being bitter ?"

I enjoy spending time with her and I hope I am able to do that again in the future. Ted finds it difficult to see me leave, even though I call him several times a day. I'd rather do these things together with him so that I don't have to worry about him. Ron and Lynne always invite him to come over, all though he loves that it does not make up for me he tells me. Well, I am glad that it is this way than the other way around.
