Lactobacillus acidophilus ( L. acidophilus ) is the most commonly used probiotic, or "friendly" bacteria.
Such healthy bacteria inhabit the intestines and vagina and protect against the entrance and proliferation of "bad" organisms that can cause disease. This is accomplished through a variety of mechanisms.
For example, the breakdown of food by L. acidophilus leads to production of lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and other byproducts that make the environment hostile for undesired organisms. L. acidophilus also produces lactase, the enzyme that breaks down milk sugar (lactose) into simple sugars. People who are lactose intolerant do not produce this enzyme. For this reason, L. acidophilus supplements may be beneficial for these individuals

What is acidophilis? I just gave you one link and there are many more and they all basically claim the same importance.
What is acidophilis? Okay here is an other link.
Are you lactose intolerant?
Do you have Crohn's decease?
Where you recently on antibiotics?
Bothered by allergy's?
Yeast infections?
Etc, etc, etc,
You think yogurt will do the trick, think again, better read the label. Activia to my knowledge is about the only one. Anyways, needless to say, I am taking it ever since 1/3 of my bowel remains after cancer. When I stop for any length of time I am in trouble, yes it aids in digestion.
You can buy them......surprise, at Walmart! My favorite store!!

Thank you for the link Truus!
It took me a while to read it all, its so interesting & helpfull to know this info for (us) people with digestion/bowel problems.
In Holland), they make a lot of money by PB stuffs (expensive!) I agree that yoghurt or milk is not as healthy as the media always told us, it has (for us) bad bacteria's,
Instead of that PB sold in little bottles, I use "kwark" or the French call that 'white -soft/slim- cheese'(for 1.25 euro per 500gramenough for 5 days!)....They both have the PB bacteria, so that worth to try also...
Though I'll better always stick with my (Crohn) medication, as you might always use your medication too?.
Tip: Helpfull is:(against digestion) drinking South African "ROOIBOS" tea , its sold with all flavors right now...On vacation I always take that tea with me as a evening drink...
