Lest you think I am feeling down in the dumps, I am not. I just so much enjoy reading (actually listening) to this every morning.
I only have to have a small lump removed from my tongue this morning at (9:00 am). I have to be at the St B. Hospital at 8:00, so I'd better get moving.
Am I scared? Yes! I'd rather have an operation where they put me 'under'!! haha
So don't be a joker and try to call me today, because I might NOT talk to you.

Evan's 5th Birthday

Opa horsing around with his youngest granddaughter Alyssa

Relaxing, with Pizza while watching the Grey Cup football game. (Winnipeg lost!)
Hey look at that Evan, he has another side!
Here comes the cake and Oma singing the Birthday song!

This time Evan can blow out the candles on his cake!
Five candles, five blows and five sprays!
Playing with his new toy, he is temporarily happy, hahaha!
Is this going to be the next Paris Hilton? Isn't she adorable? There are always the cartoons, Hudson got tired of the football game Opa and Daddy were watching.

Cancer update

This Friday Ted is going to have a CTScan. The blood tests have been done already. We will get the results December 6th when we see Dr. Harris our Oncologist. It has been over five years since he was diagnosed with liver cancer. Not many people survive that, actually we don't know of anybody. Yet here he is, free from cancer so far from the colon and the liver. We are grateful that our medical system is keeping an eye on him. The Lord sure has been good to us!
Later on in December we will be seeing the specialist Dr Hobson for the Parkinson's bothering him, which makes him very tired. Also the medication are affecting his moods and you know me I like to laugh. (That is why I enjoy being with Yvonne, she can be so witty and funny and so are the girls, definitely the Brussee genes, hahaha.)
My tests will be coming up in early 2008. But cancer is not really in our minds.
Well, I'd better get ready to go to the office.

Back home!

Well I came back from Ottawa yesterday, (I always do, hahaha).

Yvonne and the girls and I had a wonderful time. I just got to see Jason an hour before we had to leave for the Airport. He was away for a work related trip.
We took a trip to Ikea, which is such an interesting store it is too bad we don't have one in Winnipeg. As we walked into the store I said to Yvonne: "You know, I really do not need anymore stuff, I need to rather get rid of some!" Then right after almost during the same breath: "Ooooh .......I don't have that how cute that is!" Yvonne began to laugh, "Mom you just tell me you don't need anything!" "That is right", I replied, "that was before I saw that!"
I ended up having to carry it all in my hand luggage back home!!!!!!

We had dinner at "the Works", Jason and Yvonne's favourite hangout. Lunch at McDonald the girl's favourite hangout and a walk through WalMart like we used to do here in Winnipeg, how much fun that was. Then Yvonne took me for lunch to a Sushi place, my first time. (Renee looked after Aila). I very much enjoyed that lunch, but mostly the company!

We also had to do some grocery shopping, I was amazed seeing the cake and pastry counter. Because of the French influence they know how to make that. Here in Winnipeg it seems they slap it together, which, coming from Holland, does NOT appeal to me. (One of the few things I remember from my youth). I did not carry my camera else I'd taken a few pictures. We are talking here about a super market, not a specialty bakery. Many a oooh's and aaaahh's came out of my mouth, which greatly amused Yvonne.
Anneka wanted to have lunch at Tim Hortons, which we did on Saturday. In between time Yvonne and I had tea together with Gouda cheese she had bought specially for the occasion.

Friday evening we watched a movie at home with the girls, snacks included.
While I was there for only a few days, I managed to pull out the summer plants from their small garden in front of the house, raked the leaves and an hour before I left we planted red and yellow Tulips and Scillia's, small purple flowers (also called BlueBells).

We did so much it feels now that I have been there so much longer!!! Ted is very happy to have me home again. I will post a few pictures as soon as Ted has up loaded them onto the computer.
Well it is nice to know that they will be here for Christmas. They expect to visit a lot of their friends.

Not Home Yet

What an incredible message!

Today I am going to Ottawa. It will be great to see the girls.
I better go finish my packing. I won't need that much since I am coming back this Saturday.

Starbuck's cookies

Ted and I went to Starbuck's in Polo park last week and I ordered coffee and one of their cookies like a muffin top and very healthy looking. It had sunflower seeds and raisins in them, lots of roughage, just delicious.

This week I tried to imitate them and they turned out just as good, or even better I might add. How did I make them? Follow my recipe:

1/2 of a 900 g pack of Quaker oatmeal muffin mix
1 egg
1/2 cup water
1 cup raw bran flakes (approx)
1/2 cup reg oats (not instant or five min. type).
1/2 to 3/4 cup of sunflower seeds.
2 tablespoons of ground flax (optional)
(I omitted the raisins)

Mix that quickly together, make about 10 cookies, (when done they should look like muffin tops as well). Give them room to spread on a lightly buttered pan. Bake at 375 for 10-15min, sorry I can't remember, until lightly browned and set.

They will be a bit chewy in the centre, but oh so good!!

Points? I don't know, you'll have to figure that out for your selves.

The muffin without my added ingredients is 170 cal. But frankly, I don't care if it taste good!

Trip

I am going to make an unplanned trip to Ottawa next week. I will be leaving Wednesday and return Saturday 17th. Not very long but that is how long Ted is willing to be without me. I was able to get a good fare. As far as that is concerned I have become a pro.

WE sure miss the girls both Ted and I. At least one of us gets to see them.

There is not that much going on in my life lately. Too much time on my hand I guess. I was thinking of taking up knitting again. The problem is that I don't know what to knit. I could take up cooking but I just as well open a can of soup. Today though I am going to make meatballs in the crockpot, now how is that?

When I get up in the morning, which is usually around six am, I make myself some coffee and breakfast. Then I go to my laptop and listen/read a devotion. I have done this for years but lately have turned to "Strenght for my journey", and how we need that, who doesn't?

If you click on this link you can enjoy it too, you will not regret it. If you click on 'LISTEN NOW' you will enjoy it even more. He is such an excellent speaker.
Have a great day!

Today we were watching the US weather channel with reports about hurricane Noel. "Well", he said: "We don't have to worry about that anymore since Noel moved into Canada!" How considerate of him!

In the meantime Nova Scotia was battling the storm with 190,000 left in the dark because of a power outage, and thousands of dollars damage, because of washed out roads, homes etc.

It sure is nice to have neighbours who care.
