In my previous blog I mentioned me going to Personal Care Homes, well I found this picture.
It was a real treat for them if they could sing a "duet" with me. Look at him all dressed up!
Because a harp is very portable I would stroll among them and sing.
On one such occasion a sweet male resident asked if he could feel my shoulders, hmmm, sure, (he certainly got me of guard). He put his hand on my shoulder and said: "You are such an angel I was wondering if you were sprouting wings!"
One time upon leaving I put my instrument in the case without closing it. Yes you got that right, my harp fell out in a 100 plus pieces. The cries came from the audience: "Are you not able to come anymore?" I assured them that my husband was soooooo smart he could probably put it together in no time and he did. Besides looking after the children, he also tuned my harp whenever I went out. I always appreciated his support.
As I mentioned before, I'd talk about the Bible, and I would also asked questions. Now what amazed me is that they were not always able to answer questions. But........every single one would know the name of the Son of God.......Jesus, they would say in unison.
They were people from different backgrounds, from college teachers, bankers, pastors etc. I always felt that I should have respect for them, but sometimes it could get very comical.
I was told that one lady resident was a kleptomaniac. They had to keep a close watch on her. I guess one time they didn't. She went into every room and collected all the dentures and put them in her bag. You can just imagine the frustration to get everybody fitted! Grandma Jones would probably say: "These are not mine, these are my husbands!" That poor denturist, hahaha!
I mean for those of you that have partials or dentures, after two days or so, nothing fits right!
