The rattling of a drawer full of wooden spoons could sometimes be VERY effective.
I had a paint stirrer, one of those flat sticks, with written on it "I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR" (that is the first line of a traditional hymn.) Was a great tool!
*I would NOT stand back talking.
*Counting backwards from "ten to one" worked great!
*Come inside when the lights go on!
I have never been known to have much patience, which probably resulted in a "more than punishment meeting the crime" moment, after all, I am not perfect, never claimed to be, hahaha!
But NOT spanking a child? Those women in this video for instance, have they seen the result of their way of raising their kids? How old are they, (the kids)?

I have to say that I don't know of any other retired parents who have all their kids following the Lord. I think, despite your mistakes, you did a wonderful job!!
