Snakes and ladders

How come nobody is blogging? Is life so boring? Come on all you people. You know who I mean!!

Actually, I have not been all that faithful either but then I am 67, oh no 66, I keep on forgetting.

Anneka wanted to play a game with me the other day. I told her to get the game ready and I would be there in a minute. I just wanted to make a cup of coffee.

I settled in for a LLLLOOONNNNGGGG game of "Snakes and ladders".
We threw the dice a couple of times, me drinking my coffee, when all of a sudden "snakes and ladders" was gone and another game was in it's place. "Hey!!!", I said: "What happened to the game we were just playing?"
"Oh Oma", Anneka replied, "there are just too many snakes and ladders!"

My question is: Can somebody come up with a solution?

You should have seen this!!

This evening we were in a restaurant, when Ted said to me: "Hey look at that woman she is busy giving herself a first class treatment with a back scratcher". The funny part was that she was having a conversation with her companions at the table. After she had finished she folded up her telescopic scratcher as if this was the most normal thing.

I don't know about you, but this was something I have never seen before and we wished we had brought our camera.
(This picture I loaded up from the net!)

JoAnn left again!

The last two weeks have gone by too fast. JoAnn is a very special person, she was interested in everything that mattered to me and she wanted to meet all the people who are so much part of Ted and my life. Needless to say, she met a whole lot of people besides our children and grand children. Let me again suggest you read her blog, as she posted a lot of pictures.

JoAnn is the daughter of my eldest sister Coby Yes that makes me her Aunt, the truth is out!
I used to rock her to sleep while singing a lullaby. There is just something about family.
In the picture below she was going through the security. As a matter of fact, the security waved at us because we could NOT take any pictures! But how hard it is to see a loved one go away, just one more glimpse, just one more!

We had such a wonderful time together. I talked to her today, how fortunate we are having the telephone to our disposal. I remember when I first came to Canada in 1960, to make a short call was as much as one weeks supply of groceries. Now I can talk all I want. Then we have MSN and Web-cam. What a wonderful age we are living in.

In the early 50 's when my brother and his wife and children left Holland to go to Canada, as far as my Mother was concerned, they might as well have gone to the moon. She knew she'd never see them again and she never did as she passed away before she had a chance.

Goodbye to JoAnn

Tomorrow JoAnn will be leaving us again to go back to Holland.
We had a fantastic time together and as the saying goes: "Time goes fast when you are having fun!" She has posted a lot of pictures on her blog sort of like a diary.
This weekend it has been real Dutch weather in Winnipeg, rain wind and more rain, therefore we were forced to put a jacket on. What a difference from last week! With this kind of weather you like to be at home with a nice cup of coffee.

Tomorrow afternoon she has to be at the airport at 3:30 as her plane to Toronto leaves around 5:00pm. There she has a stop-over of about two hours. She'll be arriving in Amsterdam our time at 5:15am.

I remember going to Holland with Yvonne some 25 years ago on a non-stop flight Winnipeg to Amsterdam that took only eight and a half hours, now THAT was great!

Busy, busy, busy!!

At "Mongo's" restaurant

At Yvonne's for lunch

Where have I been, so much to tell, so little time.
We are on the go all the time because JoAnn wants to see everything and everybody.
First priority to her the people who are so much part of my/our lives.
She posted a lot of pictures on JoAnn's blog.

Last week we walked downtown and the "Winnipeg Square", then "Portage Place" where we sat down and shared a salad. She asked me can we share that as in Holland that is NOT allowed.

We saw the English Garden and the Leo Moll display in City Park. Then we had coffee in the restaurant next to the Tropical garden. Did you know they have new management. The service was excellent the waiter is from Europe and nearly forgot about his other customer because like Ted he loves soccer.

We also visited the church where our children Ron and Lynne attend to see Ron play in the church worship band. Also went to the "Sanctuary House of Prayer" where we saw Jason and Yvonne in action. It was for me the first time as well and we both were very much impressed.

As a parent there is nothing more special than to see their children giving their talents to the Lord. They could make a lot of money in secular places as they are, if I may say that very humbly, very talented and musical. JoAnn of course is so proud as they are her "blood cousins"

JoAnn and I get along so well, she is so much alike it is like I see my mirror in action. Though we may not look the same physically we do have the same character. Friends tell me that her mannerism is like mine. We are enjoying every minute as in one more week she will be leaving. Not only do we get along, Ted gets along equally as well.

Thought for today

* The happiness of your life depends on the quality
of your thoughts.
* You have power over your mind, not outside events.
* Your life is what your thoughts make it.

These words sound similar to Proverbs 23:7, "As [a person] thinks in his heart, so is he."

We are waiting for our niece JoAnn to arrive from Holland. Her trip has been a few months in the making.
This morning she called us from Schiphol that her plane would be delayed because of a broken toilet. The plane finally left after two and a half hours. Of course she will be missing her connecting flight in Toronto. Isn't that a bummer?

The poor girl has been sitting there for several hours before going on the plane for a long and tedious flight. She might even have to wait till tomorrow for her connecting flight she was told.

We were all ready to meet her at the Airport here in Wpg at 8:00 pm this evening.

JoAnn will be with us for two weeks and we are so very much looking forward to it.

Tip # 2

Do you have a child that likes to throw a temper tantrum that might get you kicked out of a store?
Well I heard this the other day.

When your child is on the floor, flinging his/her arms and legs, staring at you with a look that could kill you.........

Throw some water in his or her face, it will startle them and come out of their particular predicament instantly. Next time you might only need to show the water bottle.

Happy parenting.

Tip # 1

Hey guess what!

Did you know that when you have a problem frying eggs without them sticking to the pan, even a brand new frying pan? You have no problem?
Come on, could not just be me!!!

Sprinkle some salt in the pan add your butter or whatever you like to use.
You never fried such beautiful eggs in your life.

I am ready for a better suggestion!
